Celebrating Fifty Years
The Montgomery County Republican Party commemorated fifty years of Republican activity in the county with a 50th Year Celebration on Saturday, February 23, 2002 at the Lone Star Convention Center in Conroe. The event recognized volunteers, candidates and mileposts on the road to building and establishing the Republican Party as a strong, effective political organization in Montgomery County since 1952. Mark Turnbull of Conroe was the Chairman of this event.
A video presentation was produced which included photos and other political materials associated with election years beginning with 1952.
Honorary Co-Chairs named for the Celebration were President George H. W. Bush and Barbara Bush; U. S. Senators Phil Gramm and Kay Bailey Hutchison; former Congressman Bill Archer; Congressman Joe Barton; Congressman Kevin Brady; former Governor Bill Clements; former State Republican Chairman and candidate for Lieutenant Governor in 1982, George W. Strake, Jr.; and State Senator and former Harris County, Judge Jon Lindsay. Each of these played a major role in the development of the Montgomery County Republican Party. Most of those Co-Chairs attend the event.
The event began with a social hour from 5 PM to 6 PM, and a barbecue buffet was served from 6 PM to 7 PM. The program ran from 7 PM to 8 PM. Tickets were $10 each except for children under 10 years of age, who were admitted free of charge. Attendance was terrific with approximately 500 people attending. |
